Dear Friends, And I am happy to call you friends. Once our necessities are met, a friend is the best asset on your balance sheet. I certainly appreciate you allowing me to come in and out of your life and maintain the status of friend. As I travel down my list of old friends each year, I pause between names and feel your impact on my life. I recognize your link that I carry into each new relationship. How an attitude, a phrase, a reaction or an expression I got from one of you. |

I was Bob Haggard, my high school football coach, for a few moments today to some boys at the gym. They responded to me, as they did him years ago, and I was pleased with that. As you may have guessed, I am my dad a lot and sometimes my mother. Some of you would be astonished if you knew what I have taken from you. I hope you will forgive me for using your material. There have been many times that I have regretted the distance I have allowed to come between you and me and again I appreciate your graciousness. A few years ago, I read the book The Blessing by Gary Smalley. After reading it, I asked my dad if he would give me his blessing, and after a little more explanation, he agreed. As a part of this blessing process, I asked him to tell me what improvements he wished I would make in my life. He began by telling me he was proud that I could make friends easily, but struck a blow by telling me he had noticed that I had neglected my best old friends. The truth can sting. For a few years now my intentions have been to correct this character defect of mine, but I have not been successful. The pressures of life, the distractions good and bad and simply the time and energy to remedy this have evaded me. I continue to fail at being the friend I want to be. With that said, I thank you again for your graciousness toward me and I hope you will continue to include me in your life and in your circle of friends. I can promise you one thing. Your life is bigger than you ever imagined. Yours truly, Clay Clay J. Mize
