The Story of American Benefits Corporation WWII Veteran Gene Mize stepped down as the director of the Veteran’s program in 1955 to go into the insurance business in North Alabama. Later his youngest sons Gary and Clay followed him into the business, and in 1985, Clay moved the company to Florence, Alabama. American Benefits serves as regional offices for a number of national insurance companies such as Central Reserve Life, Continental General, World Insurance and Golden Rule Insurance Company. Over the years American Benefits has grown into a valuable community asset by putting millions of dollars back into our local economy. Over the past 50 years the company has been responsible for over 50 million dollars paid out in claims to individuals and families and over 20 million dollars paid out in compensation to over 300 insurance agents. American Benefits Corporation has a vested interest in our community and supports the community in a variety of way. One way the company has supported our community is by sponsoring the Mizeman Trophy scholarship award. This award goes to an area athlete each year who excels as a leader, and exhibits good character. Another way the company serves the community is through continuing education classes offered to both the general public and to area insurance professionals. It is the mission of American Benefits Corporation to protect families and independent business owners in our community against the four major financial disasters that can decimate a family and to help families move along the path from financial literacy to financial freedom.
